January Update

This blog has been neglected, and I hope to remedy that very soon.  Last night was my (Kris) birthday.  We celebrated together and had a great time.  To keep anyone who reads this blog in the loop, it should be known that we postponed the wedding from March 1st to later this spring/summer.  We don’t have a solid date yet, but this gives both of us an opportunity to finish getting things in order and getting ready.  It has actually sort of relieved my stress a little bit, and I’m sure it has removed Miranda’s stress a lot more than anyone will ever know.  As of right now we’re planning on going to Vegas on Valentines day and coming back on Saturday to spend time with some friends who will be in town from Colorado.  I promise we won’t be eloping just yet.  But then again, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!

Not A Lot To Write About Right Now…

I got the Temple scheduled for the 1st of March!  We’re both so excited.  We haven’t spent a lot of time working on the wedding lately.  My music has taken up a lot of my time the last few weeks, and Miranda has been sick so we’re just plucking along.  Miranda’s mother is coming out here on Friday to help out, and meet my Parent’s.  Is it okay if that makes me a little nervous?  For those of you who have met the Harrison’s is probably easy to understand.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my family, but we can be a handful sometimes.  I want to get the guest list worked out and Invitations worked out in the next few weeks.  That way we have plenty of time to know who will be making the trek to Denver or who will be attending in Utah.  That’s about it for right now.

You Learn Something Funny…

NotaryYou learn something funny sometimes when you get married, or plan to get married.

Today during my free time at work, I was looking online for information about a Wedding License for the State of Colorado. In my searching I was eventually directed to the Denver City Clerk and Recorder’s page. Here is where I found all the information needed to obtain a wedding license that can be used in any county in Colorado. I found all the info I needed, and printed out the Absentee Affidavit for both Miranda and I to fill out and have notarized. I always find government web pages informative and amusing, especially this one! After reading further I found a section where it talks about who has the authority to solemnize the marriage. All the usual suspects were there, a judge, magistrate, a Native-American tribe official, clergy, all of them I expected and made since, but there was another. You and your intended spouse! Now that left me blown away! I had no Idea that was possible. I wonder how many other states in the nation will allow the Solemnization to be performed by said individuals? This law was passed in 1993 and I’m not sure on the details, but I found it amusing that anyone can get a marriage license and then just sign the paper to have a legal state sponsored marriage! That’s like going to Six Flags and not having to listen to the annoying instructions before the ride that can easily kill you! That just pumps me up!

Weekend Update!

Thanksgiving was fun for both of us, and we hope that you had a great one too!  Not much happened until Saturday in the planning the wedding area, and it’s been fun to start seeing how some things will look.

On Monday last week (11-19) after we talked with both our parents we sat down and created a detailed list of things to do.  Things such as:

  • Schedule the Temple
  • Get Passports
  • Arrange Luncheon for Family and Friends
  • Marriage License
  • Invitations
  • Guest List
  • Place for Reception

You know, the little things, and the big things.

On Tuesday, while I was preparing this web page, I looked up info about passports and marriage licenses.  To get our passports we need to go to some government building between 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monday Through Friday except federal holidays.  Well that means that one of us will have to take time off work, and since I work a solid Mon-Fri schedule I’ll have to be the unlucky person that misses out on 4 hours of work.  That was not sarcasm.  We also have to get our Birth Certificates to get a passport, I have mine, but Miranda doesn’t have a clue where hers is.  She’ll have to get another one from Denver County, which may be a small hassle.  I hope we can get our passports in time, otherwise we’ll have to do a stateside honeymoon.

On Thursday (Thanksgiving) we spent most of the day with my family since her family is in Colorado.  It was a great Harrison feast with all the usual suspects involved.  Many political discussions and spiritual tales can be heard at the Harrison Thanksgiving Table.  Not a lot of football talk, like some families.  We ate, then my dad and I listened to a vinyl of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon.  This was special because this vinyl had never been played before,  I even opened the plastic myself.  I had years ago used my dad’s copy of this album as a frizbe, and recently found a replacement a few months ago.  Miranda played games with my Sister till that was over, and then we played games and talked for the rest of the day.

Friday I took my entourage of peeps with me to the jewler to pick out the wedding ring.  I found it.  It is so sweet, but that is all I can say right now.

Saturday Miranda and I embarked on a mission to find a dress pattern for her bridesmaids.  We plan to have the dresses made.  We went to every fabric store around town and found a lot of great dresses, but since we’re getting married when it’s colder outside we decided on a different style.  We finally found the pattern we wanted and chose the color styles for the dresses.  We visited the Men’s Warehouse to setup a Tuxedo account.  We are renting from them because they have outlets all over the country, and one of them is in Park Meadows in Colorado, which is 10 minutes from the Temple and the church building where the reception will be.  That was a very pleasant experience to say the least.  At the end of the day we felt like we had accomplished a lot.  Everything seems to be coming together nicely.

If you have any suggestions or comments feel free to leave them.

Hello Apollo, Where Should I Begin?

Miranda and I have been throwing around the idea of getting married almost from the start. It’s interesting how different and less difficult it is to get to know the person you are in a relationship with if you were friends first. It’s also very interesting to learn things you would never have imagined about your friend! After much consideration and many talks that helped me be late to work the next day, we have decided to just go for it. I can’t express how excited I am. This comes at an interesting time for us. The day we plan to get married is two weeks from the day that my cousin Cody and his fiancée (yes fiancée is for a woman and fiancé is for a man) Candice will be married. Along with Cody and Myself tying the knot, one of my best friends Peter Case is taking the same step in the same two week period. I’ll be going to two wedding before I go to mine! It has been an interesting few days, let me give you a rundown.

Sunday:

Miranda and I get together and have a talk shortly after my church meetings we discuss some things about our plans for the week. We briefly touch on our future together, we hadn’t decided to get married yet, and had just had a bad week. I then left with plans to come back to her house at 6 PM which was an hour and a half later. Well I fell asleep watching episodes of Flight of the Conchords. I wake up at 6 on the dot and go into a panic. I hate being late, and I hate disappointing her. I could almost feel the phone call coming. When I answered it she said, “Hi sweety, I really need you here.” I had never heard her sound more urgent in my life I said I was leaving and I’ll be there in a min. I got over there and after a while of talking to her roommates trying to find a place to talk she told me she thinks we were ready, and wanted to get married in February. She said I looked pale. If I did it was because I was trying to figure out how to pay for everything in 3 months. I was really excited. We talked about it for a while, and then we made plans to call her parents on Monday so I can ask permission.
